A Note Before the Day Gets Loud

A Note Before the Day Gets Loud

I opened my notebook before checking my phone today. The kettle had just clicked off, and the room held that brief hush after a familiar sound. I wrote the first thing that came to mind, which was that I did not want to hurry yet.

A page without a plan

The page stayed blank for a moment while I turned the pen between my fingers. Then I wrote down a few loose thoughts: the errands I might forget, a sentence from a book, and the way the curtains moved when the window was cracked open. They did not belong together, but they belonged to the same morning.

When the quiet thins

A notification lit the phone on the counter, then another. I left them there long enough to finish the line I was writing, not because the line was important, but because I wanted to hear my own thought all the way through. Soon the day filled in around it.

Keeping the unfinished bits

I did not tidy the page or turn the notes into a neat account of the morning. One thought trails off, and the errands are still only possibilities. I like having a place for things that are not finished yet; sometimes writing them down is all I need to do with them.
